In the organic blog post I referred to the Environmental Working Group’s guide to pesticides in produce. I wanted to touch on this amazing group again so you can benefit from all of their valuable information. They do a tremendous amount of research on environmental health issues so we can make well informed, healthier choices. They consolidate all of their work into user friendly guides and tools.

Following is a list of some of the consumer guides you can find at

  • Water filter buying guide
  • Children’s cereals: sugar by the pound
  • Good food on a tight budget
  • Meat eater’s guide to climate change and health
  • Meat and antibiotics
  • Avoiding GE (genetically engineered) food
  • Guide to BPA

Some other topics that are not nutrition / fitness related but are still excellent are:

  • Healthy cleaning – ranks 2,000 household products
  • Skin deep guide to cosmetics – rates the safety of 80,000 personal care products
  • Sunscreen guide
  • Healthy home tips
  • Bug repellents
  • Safer cell phone use

Optimal wellness goes beyond what we eat and how much we exercise. The products we use in our homes and on our bodies contribute to our health as well. I was amazed when I looked up some of the products that my family utilizes in the EWG household products and personal care products search engine. We were being exposed to numerous toxic chemicals on a daily basis. I was able to use their website to find safer products for our family. You should do the same.
